Gay Friendly Greece :The Gay Friendly Islands & Placesrecommended hotels & general information. | ![]() |
Greece means... Athens and Mykonos. Well, true and not true: Greece is also much more.
The Greek gay everyday situation is still fairly bleak. Compared to other Mediterranean countries gays can lead a good life,
but compared to other parts of Europe, Greek gays still need to increase their self-confidence
and esteem. Athens and Thessaloniki both have very active gay groups, but their activities do not reach beyond city limits.
Most gays vacation on the Cyclades Islands, and mostly here... on the island of Mykonos; however other islands like Santorini and Paros, are catching up fast. The Greek Islands make a very welcome alternative to the western side of the Mediterranean.

Paros island: |
| Some of our recommended places to stay and see on Paros Island. Most beautiful area is Naoussa, with it's picturesque harbour, large bay and many beaches and coves; the beach at Agios Ioannis Monastiri is a favourite for mainy nude sunbathers and gays. Fully recommended: gay-friendly Flottila Hotel, Heaven and Manos. We can also book you rooms at the deluxe, Astir of Paros, or To Kyma at Anargyros Beach. |
Crete Island: |
| This large island is reputed for its 'macho' men not its tolerance for gay & lesbian lifestyles! The charm and authentic civilization of the old towns - especially Hania & Rethymno - offer opportunities for meeting visitors and locals at first class restored hotels, or up-market restaurants and bars. Many traditional houses have upgraded to stylish hotels: the Casa Delfino, Halepa & many others. For your stay in Heraklion, when visiting the famous archaeological site of Knossos, we recommend Hotel Atlantis among others. |
Hydra Island: |
| Interesting, historically rich, and very residential island in the Saronnic Gulf, close to Athens. Has well restored buildings, transformed into hotels. Definitively worth a short visit: no beaches, no cars allowed, and relaxing evenings. We recommended properties like the first class: Bratsera |
