August is teeming with pilgrims who come at the fete of "our Lady".
The inland island is little affected by tourism and its 45 villages have retained their
traditional character, distinctive vernacular architecture and work-of-art pigeon-houses.
The medieval castle ruins at Xombourgo are also exceptional.
Tinos together with Panagia of Tinos (Virgin Mary of Tinos) is characterized as the island of Faith.

SIGHTSEEINGS
The church of Evangelistria. An impressive, imposing building, constructed all from white marble.
It was established in 1823 at the point were the icon of Panagia was found, which is believed to be that work of Apostle Luke.
The village of Triantaros, 6klms North east, built on a privileged position for its view. At this village you will see "gournes" (water basins) ,
the old public washing areas, which many housewives still use.

From the Greek mainland ferries and highspeed catamaran services run daily from Piraeus, Rafina.
Many travelers probably don’t even consider Rafina a possible departure port if they are heading to one of the Cyclades, but if you are arriving at the airport of Athens you are often better off taking a ferry from Rafina to Tinos than traveling to Athens and get a ferry from Piraeus.
Most hotels, small resorts and self-catering lodging will be found close to some golden and pebbly beaches.
